In this episode I dusted off an article I wrote in November 2017 where I compare Lean Six Sigma’s DMAIC methodology with steps Incident Management Team (IMT) members follow using the Planning “P” as their guide.

Throughout the episode I verbally walk the listener through the DMAIC to Planning “P” concept map I created to the left and share how I believe Six Sigma and all-hazards incident management skills crossover and converge in many places. For Six Sigma practitioners the Design Measure Analyze Improve Control or DMAIC methodology is very familiar and for green and black belts DMAIC is second nature. In the all-hazards incident management world, the equivalent process follows the Planning “P” and should likewise be second nature to experienced and credentialed incident management team (IMT) professionals.
I hope what is evident in the concept map I created above and in PPP68 is that there is much common ground between these two processes and knowledge areas. To this point, both Six Sigma and all-hazards incident management processes focus on identifying a problem or problems, brainstorming solutions, collecting data, and then provide process or product improvement through efficient application of personnel and resources. Thanks for reading this, listening to the podcast and I look forward to your comments and continuing to learn and network together on LinkedIn.

As always, stay safe, wash your hands and Godspeed,
Kevin
