My first meeting with Rob Lawrence was brief. I was finishing my Bachelor’s Degree in Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness and our final exercise was held in a mock emergency operations center (EOC) that was stood up at the Richmond Ambulance Authority. Years later I got to know Rob when I became the Planning Captain for the Richmond Ambulance Authority. During my tenure there I learned quite a bit about EMS management and gleaned much from Rob about organizational leadership. We also worked together on many planned events and unfortunately a few unplanned, critical incidents.

Rob graduated from the United Kingdom’s Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst (like the United State’s West Point) and went on to serve in the Royal Army Medical Corps for 22 years. After his military service Rob moved into the civilian EMS world as part of the England Ambulance Service, Richmond Ambulance Authority, Paramedics Plus in Alameda County, California and is the principal of Robert Lawrence Consulting.
By way of ‘PPP60: Leadership in Emergency Medical Services with Rob Lawrence’, Rob and I were able to catch up a bit and share his professional life story and pay forward some of Rob’s leadership knowledge with the listeners of the ‘People, Process, Progress’ podcast.

Rob is a featured Columnest for EMS1.com and a former board member of the American Ambulance Association and currently serves as chair of its Communications Committee and a member of the media rapid response task force, providing industry media response to national industry-related news inquiries.
