Wrapping up another episode of ‘People, Process, Progress’ looking at the history of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) from ancient times through today. I’ve been practicing BJJ for almost 16 months now, new by BJJ standards, and have learned a ton about myself and this great self defense art and sport. While working to pull together research I was reminded of the importance of knowing where we come from, both personally and professionally.
I’ve valued talking to my relatives about my family tree and sharing that with my children. Professionally I’ve always held an interest in the history of my chosen professions. During my year as a podcast I’ve learned a lot about the history of firefighting, of my beloved U.S. Navy Hospital Corps, about the history of the incident command system (ICS) and will soon dig into the early foundations of project management.
I submit to you the reader to look at what you enjoy in life and to consider learning from the history of how it came to be and how you, as a current practitioner, hobbyist or family member can make your mark.
